Beverage Quest: Bloody Mary

South Beach is particularly boring on the beverage front.  I never drink soda and I certainly won't start on the diet soda at this point in my life.  It's just not on my radar.  I've been keeping myself entertained with almond lattes and a variety of herbal teas.  Michael does his iced tea once in a while.  Most of the time we just drink good old boring H2O.  This morning we decided we'd had enough.  Tomato juice is one of the breakfast menu recommendations from the original South Beach diet book.  Neither of us could bring ourselves to drink it, however.  We needed something a little more fun, with a little more sophistication.  We needed, a virgin Bloody Mary...
Virgin Bloody Mary
ice
1 cup tomato juice
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp prepared horseradish
1/4 tsp Tabasco sauce or  fave hot sauce
2 celery ribs with leaves intact, washed
fresh ground pepper to taste

Fill tall glasses 3/4 with ice.  Combine remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker or large pyrex measuring cup.  Mix.  Pour over ice.  Garnish with the celery ribs.  Grind a bit of pepper over each glass.

Enjoy!  As we were sipping our refreshing beverages, Michael told me all we needed now was a basement rec room with wood paneling, leather bar stools, and lounge music filling the air.  I think I'll just take the drink.
